These are two words that to me seem simple enough in nature. When combined they create what I had always thought to be a well known gesture of kindness, politeness, and acknowledgement. That being said, I have found myself in a few situations lately where the phrase "Thank you" may as well have become an addition to the already well know “7 dirty words you can’t say on TV.”
